A penny for my thought (The Fault in our Stars)

“I want you  to know that I’m both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.” A quote from The Perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. That’s how I feel about the world/life in general happy and sad, but when I read books I’m more happy than sad. The Fault in our stars takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions that builds you up then breaks you down so that you realize the world isn’t a wish granting factory.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. – Goodreads

There is little to say about this novel its simple amazing, eye-opening and overwhelming.  John Green words flow from the pages into your mind and you feel everything Hazel -the protagonist- is feeling and you want nothing more than her to be happy and healthy.

Augustus Waters makes you believe in love even if you don’t. For that glimpse second in time while reading it gives you hope that maybe the world isn’t as bad as it seems. When bad stuff happens its only the universe wanting to be notice.

The thing I love most about the book it portrays real life as we know it. It does not necessarily have a happy ending, there is no happy ever after. There is no happy ending in life, we live to die. Dying is a side effect of living, we all are going to die.

I love this book and I recommend it to everyone, even if your not a book person it’s just one of those that you have to read.

There are a lot of inspirational quotes from TFIOS these are some of my favourite’s:

I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.

My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellation.

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.

You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world but you do have some say in who hurts you.

What a slut time is. She screws everybody.

The marks humans leave are too often scars.

It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.

Some people don’t understand the promises they’re making when they make them,” I said.

“Right, of course. But you keep the promise anyway. That’s what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway.

Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.

Without pain, how could we know joy?’ This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.

You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection for you. All efforts to save me from you will fail.

There are many more quotes but I’ll stick with these.

How I feel before I read TFIOS.

The Fault in our stars movie comes out on June 6 and the trailer is out now. The movie looks like it remain true to the books and I can’t wait to see it.

What are your thought on the Fault in our stars? Did you love the book? Are you going to see the movie?

A penny for my thought (The Maze Runner)

I recently read this book, it took me nearly a month to do so -not that it wasn’t an interesting book- I really liked it.

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers all boys whose memories are also gone.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out-and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

The book is written in third person narrative (or second I don’t know) which I love because unlike first person narrative you get every detail of the story. Seeing that the narrator only follows Thomas, we didn’t get the whole story, which is cool -can’t give everything away- but I would have love to know what someone else going through like the girl. I think it would have been a way better (and emotional) book if it was written in first person narrative.

In the beginning it was kind of hard keeping up with all the characters being introduce. I think that’s just me but as I read further I got a feel of the main characters and the roleo they played.
At first Thomas was confuse, he didn’t know where he was and why he was there, he had no memory other than his name and I felt that confusion while reading. (Still would preferred the first person narrative).

This books is packed with suspense, action from the beginning to the end, there weren’t that many dull moments. Its on the dark side with Gievers, which scare the klunk out of me. Oh, the book is full of really cool termologies “Gladers slang.” Klunk, greenie, shank, I don’t want to give too much away.

By now you know that its been adapted into a movie. The Maze Runner works because of it’s plot, its original. Yes it is a YA dystopia novel like the Hunger Games and Divergent etc with a “government” trying to control it’s youth. I like that this have a male protagonist (not that I’m against female leads). Dylan O’Brien is cast as Thomas, you may know him as Stiles from Teen Wolf and movies like The First Time and The Internship.

You should definitely read the book, not because its turned into a movie, its a good read especially if your into YA novels.

Check out the trailer which is out and let me know you what your thoughts are, if you read the book or not.
Are you excited to see the movie??

The Day of……(Gone Girl)

Its 4am as I write this post and my head is spinning because I just finish reading Gone Girl. Its was an amazing book I don’t know why it took me so long to finally read it.

Nick and Amy are married but on their fifth anniversary, Amy went missing. ALL the evidence points to Nick who swears he didn’t do anything to Amy and if that’s true; Where is Amy?
With surprising and devious plot exquisitely put together by exceedingly talented writer, Gillian Flynn.

Flynn writing style is incredible, the choice of words, tone everything fell together marvelously making the book an easy read. Reading this book in first person narrative meant being in the thoughts of two very sick people. The first half of the book you had no other choice but to suspect Nick killed Amy. With the dairy entries and Nick’s lack of concern toward his missing wife. Then comes part two, and we discover that Amy is a deranged sociopath, who planned for over a year to frame her husband for murder.

Poor Nick. Amy pushed Nick into infidelity, she pushed Nick away. The lost of his job, his mom illness all took a toll on him. But she decided its time for the real Amy to come out. Nick isn’t perfect, he just want people to think of him as the good guy with in most cases he is. That’s why I loved him. And after all what Amy put him through he still stayed with her. I think the baby was an excuse to stay. He really did love Amy and he knew he was nothing with her in his life.

Am I the only one who thinks Amy has a personality disorder? She made herself into the ‘cool girl’ the girl every guys likes so Nick would fall for her but them when she decide to be the real Amy. She acts a certain way so people would love her and thinks she’s perfect but when they saw her flaws, she wants to kill them. She basically wanted everyone to thinks she’s perfect and no one is perfect.

The suspend is what kept me reading, and I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I was waiting for a volcano to erupt and all I got was a mere bonfire.  Maybe because there is no hope for these characters, no redemption, no justice for those murdered.

By now we all know that Gone Girl is adapted into a movie and Nick is played by no other than Ben Affleck. The trailer is out now, and I read that’s there is a alternate ending. So I can’t wait to see.

What are your thoughts on Gone Girl?

Battle for the Box Office (April 18)

Happy Good Friday, Hope everyone have a good Easter Break. These are the movies opening this Holy weekend.

1. Heaven is for real (April 16)

During emergency surgery, a young boy (Colton) slips from consciousness and almost dies. Afterwards he claims that he visited heaven. His family and the members of his small town do not believe him until his stories identify people who have passed away.  This is the perfect movie to see this weekend it opened on Wednesday and made over $3 million. It’s inspiring and uplifting, its based on a book inspired by true events. The trailer looks good and if I’m going to see a movies this weekend, I would definitely see this one.

2. Transcendence (April 18)

A science fiction thriller film about a computer scientist, Evelyn Caster, who uploads her husband Will’s brain into a computer after he has been assassinated by terrorists. Both Evelyn and Will work together to create a technological singularity for creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. I watched all trailer but I’m torn with this movie, I don’t know if I like it or not. Its sound cool but it doesn’t feel original, it centers on computers rebelling on humanity and its been done before. It probably ends with the unplugging Will just joking. It stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman. This movie can go either way but I don’t think it can take the number one spot away from Captain American.

3. A Haunted House 2 (April 18)

Marlon Wayans stars as a man plagued by paranormal events in the sequel spoof. This movie was suppose to be release earlier this year but they moved the date. The date should have moved to never. I just don’t get it, its the same plot with a bigger budget and hopefully better jokes. Mainly its just wrong timing for this movie. But we’ll see how well it does.

Sorry this post is so late.

Last week I was correct with Captain American holding on to the number one spot Transcendence seems like the movie to take that spot but I’m not sure, its going to.

Which movies are you planning to see this weekend? What do you think of Transcendence?
