Fall into Winter 2014

Hello to the few people who still read my blog, thank you for reading. So I’ve been MIA for 2 months now, which is something a new blogger should not do. I’m sorry but I’m back (until my semester starts) and I have a lot I want to blog about.

Here goes,

Fall is my favorite time of the year which is pretty ironic because the two places I’ve lived all my life only have one season which is summer. Nevertheless, I love the idea of fall, pumpkin pie, sweatshirts, cooler weather, leaves changing colors and most of all the best movies are release during the fall.  The movies on this list are some of the year’s most anticipating movies, some you may not know -as yet- and others you can’t stop thinking about and is dying to see.

1. Gone Girl (October 3) With his wife disappearance on their fifth anniversary Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) becomes the focus of an intense media eye. As the police investigates further into his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike) disappearance, the media turns on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent. We all know the book written by Gillian Flynn by the same name and most of us read it and hate that we love it. Gillian Flynn screen-write the movie along with David Fincher whose directing. With an alternative ending book-readers and movie-goers are going to love this movie. I can definitely see this in the running for best picture and actor at 2015 Oscars.

2. Interstellar (November 5)         Interstellar is definitely the years most anticipated movie, it’s the first movie Matthew McConaughey stars in, coming off his big Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club earlier this year. Along with McConaughey, the movie stars a mass of other Oscar winners such as: Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastian, Michael Caine just to name a few. Interstellar is about a space travel story about a group of astronaut trying to find an inhabitable planet to replace Earth because Earth is on the brink of extinction. The movies written by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan and directed by Christopher Nolan who we all know from the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception. Nolan has yet to win a Oscar he’s been snob too many times and this might be his lucky year.

3. Exodus God & Kings (December 12)   Following the trend of religious movie comes Exodus which is the name of the second book in the bible and it gives an account of Moses leading the Israelite slaves to freedom from Egypt. Christian Bale plays Moses, a role that is a long way from the Dark Knight, Joel Edgeton plays the pharaoh Rhamses, Aaron Paul as Joshua and Sigourney Weaver as Tyua. Director and Co-Writer Ridley Scott who is well know for movies like Prometheus and Gladiator, uses a state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion to bring this story to life.

4. Fury (October 17)

Fury follows a five men American tank crew in Europe on the final days of World War 2. Fury stars a mass of hunks such as, Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena just to name a few. It was written and directed by David Ayer who is know for Sabotage and End of Watch. The release was initially set for November 14 but was moved up to October 17. By the trailer Fury looks like the Saving Private Ryan of the 21st century which are pretty big shoes to fill but that’s how promising it seems for now.

5. FoxCathcher (November 14)

FoxCatcher is based on the true story of Mark Schultz, an Olympic wrestler whose relationship with sponsor John du Pont and brother Dave Schultz would lead to unlikely circumstances. It stars Channing Tatum as Mark Schultz, Mark Ruffalo as Dave Schultz and Steve Carell as John du Pont.  This movie isn’t a blockbuster and it probably wont make a big profit but it’s going one of the years most critically acclaimed movie. Steve Carell is one of Hollywood’s most diverse and underestimate actor.  Do I hear Oscar bells for Best and Supporting actor, too early to tell.

Noticeable Mentions

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

2. Dumb & Dumber To

3. Inherent Vice

4. The Hobbit

These movies will definitely  make fall 100% better.  Which movie are you looking for too this fall?

Trailer Frenzy (Take 2)

It seems like were getting more and more trailers than usual for movies we are dying to see, Transformers, X-Men Days of Future Past, Maleficent, The Fault in our Stars and some new one as well like Cinderella, Mockingjay and Interstellar. This are some of movie announcements that happened this week.

1. Cinderella

Earlier this week I wrote a post about fairy tales turning into live-action motion picture and recently Disney released a teaser trailer for Cinderella and I feel like I beat every one to it, even Disney. For more live-action fairy tales check out my post Fairy Tales are Forever. The trailer wasn’t anything to get excited about and I don’t think Disney that is why they released it. I think they release it so people know that a Cinderella movie is being made, isn’t that the purpose of a teaser trailer. The trailer isn’t much just the famous glass slipper and a butterfly. The shoe looks extremely uncomfortable and it wasn’t what I expected it to look like. The trailer has been getting mixed comments but I can’t wait until 2016.

2. Interstellar

We got our first official trailer of Christopher Nolan highly anticipated film Interstellar, and it’s the first movie trailer I’ve seen this year that gave me chills. We get a better look at what the movie -Interstellar- is all about, A space travel story about a group of astronaut trying to find an inhabitable planet to replace Earth because Earth is on the brink of extinction. It was written by Christopher and Johnathon Nolan and it based on the theories of Kip Throne. From Nolan’s previous movies I know we are going to have our minds blown by his visual effect and it’s definitely going to be his most visually stunning movie to date. Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughnhey, Jessica Chastian, Anne Hathaway, and Michael  Caine, among others stars so the acting is going to be phenomenal. Do I hear Oscar bells? Best Score, Best Cinematography, Best Director even, too early to tell but very promising.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past has released a lot of clip showcasing  their new and returning mutants such as Blink, QuickSliver Shadowcat, Mystique, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, Magento. My favorite is, all of them, each time I watch the trailers I hope that it doesn’t have to end. I’m on the edge with X-Men and I cant wait to see it.

5. Guardian of the Galaxy

Another Marvel movie made headline this week, when Guardian of the Galaxy release a second teaser trailer, I’ve only seen it once and I’m not completely sold on this movie as yet. I can tell that this movie is going to have a different tone and attitude than other Marvel’s movie, it’s more on the humorous side. The Guardians include Star-Lord, Groot, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Drax the destroyer, the guardians are alien from the 31st century who travel back in time to enlist the help to battle the Baboon, an evil alien race that attempts to conquer Earth’s solar system. It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Batista, Bradley Cooper(voice), Vin Diesel(voice), it’s not the best cast when you think of a superhero movie but we’ll see.

6. Superman vs. Batman

We got our first look at Ben Affleck as Batman this week and he looks awesome, on contrary to what people are saying. Affleck may not be the best Bruce Wayne or Batman but he’s sure going to be the most controversial and memorable. Ben Affleck is Batman people deal with it.  We also got a look of the batmobile, it all looks cool and I cant wait to see the final outcome. Keep in mind that this is a sequel to Man of Steel, it’s not a Batman/Dark Knight movie. I’m sorry I don’t have the picture.

7. Mockingjay

We got our first look at Mockingjay no just Julianne Moore as President Coin, which was pretty cool, she looked just like how I imagined Coin to be. We got some other stuff about Mockingjay but not trailer, just a poster teaser trailer part 1, which mean there is going to be more. I just really want the trailer to be release, it’s been long enough. I think the movie is in post-production t that’s why we haven’t seen anything, but I hope we’ll get our trailer soon.

So many movie announcement happened this week which one did you like the best?

-Have a good one.

2014 Summer Blockbusters: Maleficent

wpid-maleficent-poster-1.jpg.jpeg

Over the past couple years we’ve been getting quite a number of live-action fairy tales movies such as Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood), Jack the Giant Slayer (Jack and the Beanstalk), Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (Hansel and Gretel) and Alice in Wonderland(Alice Adventures in Wonderland). Not all were hits but they definitely started a trend and continuing that trend is no other than Disney’s upcoming re-tell on Sleeping Beauty, re-told from the point of view of Maleficent. Known as Mistress of all Evil, Maleficent is Disney’s most iconic villain and in the upcoming movie we finally find out what led her to curse Princess Aurora.

As beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in peaceful forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and as a result places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and perhaps to Maleficent true happiness as well.

The movie stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent,  Elle Fanning playing Princess Aurora, along with Juno Temple, Brenton Thwaites and Shartlo Copley. Toddler Princess Aurora is played by Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. All actor in Maleficent where chosen because of their uncanny resemblance to their respectful characters

Tim Burton, David Yates and David O. Russell where all rumored to be directing but the job went to Oscar winner Robert Stromberg. This is Stomberg directorial debut, he’s known for his visual effects and production design on movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End(2007), The Hunger Games(2012) and Pan’s Labyrinth(2006).  Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay, she’s also the screenwriter of Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. With a budget around $160 million and big names on screen and behind the camera Maleficent is not a movie to be missed this summer.

Grab a friend and mark the date for May 30th, but before, check out the trailer and comment what you think off it.

2014 Summer Blockbusters: X-Men Days of Future Past

wpid-x-men-days-of-future-past-poster-posse-art-series-1.jpg

Marvel has officially taken summer blockbusters to a whole new level this year, with the release of Captain America: Winter Soldier, The Amazing SpiderMan 2 both did extremely well, dominating there opening weekend. Now with X-Men Days of Future Past and upcoming Rise of the Guardians destine to follow this path.

I wasn’t thrilled when I heard that they were going to combine the characters from the original X-Men trilogy with their younger selves from the X-Men First Class series. I thought that both series are good on its own and combined may be a disaster. I’m not a big fan of Marvel but when I saw the First Class movie I fell in love with it, I’m a sucker for a good origin story. Days of Future Past story is partially set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant robot called Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed. In the present day, the X-Men are forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring. They must change the past to save their future. The movie takes place in time different time zones, in the 1970’s(First Class) and 2018(where the film picks up with its original X-Men cast).

Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hault join forces with Patrick Steward, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackson, Anna Pacquin  and Hally Berry who all will be reprising their iconic roles. For those who are fan of the original X-Men trilogy don’t get too excited to see the cast back together. The original trilogy will appear mostly in scenes depicting the dystopian future so time commitments for the actors are minimal.

Bryan Singer is on as director and producer, he is also the director of the original X-Men trilogy. Michael Vaughn who director X-Men First Class was previously on to director Days of Future Past but he lost out to Singer. Vaughn is on only as a producer.

With a budget around $220 million its the second most expensive film made by20th Century Fox, the first was Avatar so it has big shoes to fill. The many trailers that’s been released did not disappoint and with a budget like that it can’t afford to. The Sentinels are high anticipation in the X-Men series, fans had been waiting for over a decade to see them and in the trailer they look spectacular and they are all CGI.

Fan of X-Men can look forward to a X-Men Origin: Mystique, X-Men Origin: Deadpool and a X-Men 4 movies in the future. They are just under development and I hope that they don’t get shutdown like the Magneto movie which I would have love to see.

X-Men Days of Future Past is going to be full of action, explosion and amazing CGI and effect. If your a fan or not you should definitely see this movie.

Are you excited to see it, let me know your thoughts by commenting.

-Have a good one.

A penny for my thoughts (Divergent)

image

OK so I know I’m late with a Divergent review but don’t consider this a review just my thoughts on the adaption. Which I finally saw, I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t like the book that much but I have to say the movie was awesome. I loved almost all the changes they made in the movie. Shailene Woodley and Theo James surprisingly had great chemistry and they really brought Tris and Four to life. It was weird watching Ansel Elgort as Caleb seeing that he’s going to play Gus in TFIOS but he’s a really good actor. The biggest thing I didn’t like about the movie was the lack of character development. I didn’t know who Al was until he attacked Tris and Peter until they called his name to fight Tris and Uriah, Drew, Marlene, Zeke and Molly wasn’t even introduced. I don’t know if its just me, it was hard to tell who was who. As a movie on its own its great but as a adaptation it was good.

I want to make a list of what they changed/didn’t include in the movie for all who didn’t read the book.

1.  A Dauntless initiate died on the first train ride to the headquarter when they had to jump to the roof. It show how dangerous the Dauntless initiation was.

2. The de-eyeballing. There was this guy named Edward who was the best initiate who got his eyeball gruesomely removed with a butter-knife by Peter. They did film the scene but it was too gruesome for a PG13 audience so it’s maybe on the DVD.

3. This one I don’t get, Tris has seven fears and they only showed four in the movie. Those fears are if you want to know, getting eaten alive by crows, drowning in a glass tank, drowning in the ocean, being burned at the stake by Peter, being kidnapped, getting intimate with Four, and being forced to shoot her family.

4. Christina and Will’s relationship. We see them talking at one point but that’s it. The movie didn’t showed that they were together.

5. Uriah, he was Tris friend, they didn’t introduce him so that took away the enthusiasm from the zip-line scene. The movie focuses on Tris and Four’s relationship while Tris had many friends.

6. In the capture the flag scene Christina was the one to get the flag not Tris and in the book they had paintball guns not tranquilizer guns. (I love this changed it was really cool).

7.  Visiting Day. They had a visiting day for all the transfer initiates. It wasn’t that significant because Tris did get to see her mom.

8. Four and Tris. There are different, Tris is 16 and Four is 18 in the book Four looks way older in the movie. The final scene when Tris found Four in the control room, he was the one controlling the system or whatever. They shared a moment when Tris was staring into Four’s eyes and repeating “It’s me” until he comes to — is still there, but it’s overwhelmed a bit by the action.

9.  Janine suspected that Tris is Divergent, and conversation at Erudite headquarters is far less warm than the movie’s version.

10. Four told Tris he love you. I liked that they didn’t put that in the movie with the tough guy act in the movie it wouldn’t work.

I’ll stop at 10 but let me know what I missed, I know i missed a lot and what did you think of Divergent?

What makes you laugh 2014?

Since Monday I’ve been meaning to do a list about comedies coming out this year, but time wasn’t on my side. Comedy is my favourite genre of movies and I do believe laughter is the best medicine, OK I’m rambling. I wanted to do just a short list of 5, but that’s really hard so I’m going to do two list of 5’s sequels and originals. Hope you like.

Sequels

5. Horrible Bosses 2 (November 23)

Off the success of the first film grossing out $209 million worldwide there’s no surprise their making a sequel.  Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and hold him for ransom him to regain control of their company. The plot as you see is different from the first movie which is a plus, sequels are always less funny than their predecessor, but this one seems different. The trailer has yet to be release so its hard to tell if it lives up to the first but there is no doubt that it will be funny.

4. 22 Jump Street (June 5)

image

After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. I’m not sure about the plot it sounds the same especially the, “we need to find out who’s dealing the drug” premise.  I hope its not going to be like the first one which I loved and I hope the plot isn’t copied and pasted. The trailer looks OK, a lot of jokes not all of them are funny.

3. Think Like a Man 2 (June 20)

image

The couples are back together for a wedding in Las Vegas, but plans for a romantic weekend go awry when their various misadventures get them into some various situations that threaten to derail the big event. This is a romantic comedy and if its anything like the first it deserves to be on this list. But with that said I am a bit stretchy about the plot and the trailer so far. The whole Las Vegas premise is played out since The Hangover.

2. The Haunter House (April 18)

image

Having exorcised the demons of his ex, Malcolm is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, however, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events. The same plot but with different actors and a bigger budget. You be the judge.

1. Dumb and Dumber to (November 14)

20 years after the dimwits set out on their first adventure, they head out in search of one of their long lost children in the hope of gaining a new kidney. This is definitely the most anticipated comedy of the years. There is no trailer out as yet and I hope it lives up to the expectation. Jennifer Lawrence makes a cameo which I can’t wait to see.

Originals

5. Tammy (July 2)

image

After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother. Melisa McCarthy plays Tammy so its going to be hilarious I love her. The teaser trailer is out but its getting mixed reviews a lot of people aren’t completely sold on the film as yet. Which is understandably but its just a teaser trailer there is only so much they can stuff in 60 second.

4. Neighbours (May 9)

image

A couple with a newborn baby face unexpected difficulties after they are forced to live next to a fraternity house. I love this plot, there us nothing like this out there. Seth Rogen wrote and direct so no doubt its gonna be funny. Zac Efron and Dave Franco may I say more. Its gotten great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with 100% of the critic liked it  and 92% of users liked it, which I think is the best. So I can’t wait to see if this.

3. The Other Woman (April 25)

image

After realizing she is not her boyfriend’s primary lover, a woman teams up with his wife and plots mutual revenge. Its stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Nicki Minaj so it won’t disappoint on the hottest but will it deliver on the hilarity? The trailer is out it looks funny but they revealed too much in the trailer and it seems like they used there best jokes.

4. Bad Words (March 18)

image

A spelling bee loser sets out to exact revenge by finding a loophole and attempting to win as an adult. Its stars Jason Batmen and this is not your family friendly comedy. It was one of the funniest movie I’ve seen recently. Don’t watch it I’d you don’t have a sense of humor.

“…your chair called me for help… it was like help me..its so heavy” 😂😂😂

1. A Million Ways to Die in the West
(May 30)

image

Two words: Seth MacFarlane.

Which movie are you excited to see and which ones your think are not going to bomb?

Battle for the Box-Office (March 28)

I’m taking a break from reading The Maze Runner to write about Noah and Sabotage the movie coming out this weekend and which one I think is going to come out on top. Here goes:

1. Noah

image

We all know the story of Noah, God is saddened at the wickedness of mankind and sends a great flood to destroy all life on Earth, but instructs Noah, a man “righteous in his generation,” to build a wooden ark and save a remnant of life from the Flood. Noah builds the ark and saves his family and representatives of all animals from the massive flood waters which cover the Earth. Directed by Darren Aronofsky this $150 million blockbuster has manage to piss off leaders from the Jewish and Christian community. Some of the issue many have with the movies is it lack of the word God meaning it wasn’t mention in the movie at all, it was supposedly substitute for Creator. Noah got the vision from a dream of the flood rather than walking with God. In no way did I expect Noah to be remain 100% accurate just like every other biblical movie but they embellish a little too much. I said, in an earlier post that I will not let my religious view conflict with my judgement on Noah as a movie but that’s hard to do. With a $150 million budget you should expect a lot from this movie and if you go to see it keep in mind that no animals were use its all CGI so that’s pretty cool. I won’t be watch Noah but if you do and your a Christian I would like to hear your thoughts on it so please COMMENT.

2. Sabotage

Sabotage follows an elite DEA task force that deals with the world’s deadliest drug cartels. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, I don’t know much about this film but the trailer looks cool. It seems like a typical drug movie through, you know how its going to end before it does but you watch it see the fight scenes and such. All and all it looks like a typical action movie nothing special. I would rather watch it over Noah but that’s me.

Winner for this weekend is going to be Noah without a doubt, it going to sweep Divergent to second. Sabotage will be down to fifth or sixth in my opinion.

What movie are you going to see this weekend and what do you think of Noah?
