wpid-141230_234622_collage-1.jpgwpid-141230_234521_collage-1.jpg

2014 started of really horrible in the case of movies that is,  can you name one movie that came out in January probably not,  remember I, Frankenstein or The Legend of Hercules. Of course the first few  months is always the worst for movie openning but as the months progress we got a few good movies.  The following  is a list of the favourites e,  the actual best and less memorable movies of each month.  *The favourite and the actually best (determine by me) is different, being the favourite made the most at the box office and the less memorable are the ones that bombed and are actually not that memorable, sometimes they the same.*

November

  • The Favourite – Interstellar and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
  • The Actual Best – Foxcatcher,  Interstellar and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
  • Less Memorable : Horrible Bosses 2

December

  • The Favourite –  The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
  • The Actual Best – Into the Woods and Inherent Vice
  • Less Memorable – Annie and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tombstone

As the year went by it got we got better movies and it became clear that 2014 didn’t offer us much summer blockbuster to choose from,  but what we got was mindblowingly good.  From  Captain America 2 to Days of Future Past to Guardians of the Galaxy to Godzilla blockbusters this year pulled out all the stops this year.  But which summer Movie reign supreme,  which comedy, horror,  rom-com,  adaptation came out on top in their genres.  let’s break it down.

Comedy

  • The Favourite – Dumb and Dumber To.
  • The Actual Funniest – Bad Words,  This is Where I Leave You and Let’s be Cops
  • The Less Funny – Tammy

Romance

  • The Favourite – The Fault in our Stars and If I Stay
  • the Actual Tearfess – The Fault in our Stars
  • Less Lovable – Endless Love

Horror

  • The Favourite – The Purge: Anarchy and Annebelle
  • The Scariest – Annabelle and Deliver US From Evil
  • The Trying too Hard – Oculus

Adaptions

  • The Favourite – Divergent and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
  • The “It’s just like the book,” – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Gone Girl
  • The “it can’t be the same book,” –  Divergent

Action/Blockbuster

  • The Favourite – Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America 2: Winter Solider
  • The “OMG!! Did that just happened” – X-Men: Days of Future Past and Guardian of the Galaxy
  • The “really that’s the best the producers could have done” – Maleficent

 Rom-Com

  • The Favourite – About Last Night and That Awkward Moment
  • The “AWWWdorable” – What if, Two Night Stand and That Awkward Moment
  • The “just another stupid rom-com” – The Other Woman and Blended

Drama

  • The Favourite – The Foxcatcher, The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, Interstellar
  • The “Hold up, that didn’t just happen” – The Foxcatcher, Whiplash, NightCrawler and Still Alice
  • The “That was a drama??” – Exodus: Gods & KIngs

*Some of the movies fall into more than one genre example all the movies in drama are adaptations which makes it hard to categorize them.*

All the movies that came out this year stood out in their own ways and alot of them aren’t even mentioned in this list and it goes to show that you can’t make a best movies 2014 list. Even if you break them down month by month, or genre by genre, it hard to choose one movie to triumph above the rest. Even more I can think of movies that I didn’t mentions on this, that I will remember for a long time to come. This year movies were good and next year is going to be better and the year after that will be even better.

Comment below which movie you enjoyed most this year and the ones you can watch 1000 times without getting bored?

Fall into Winter 2014

Hello to the few people who still read my blog, thank you for reading. So I’ve been MIA for 2 months now, which is something a new blogger should not do. I’m sorry but I’m back (until my semester starts) and I have a lot I want to blog about.

Here goes,

Fall is my favorite time of the year which is pretty ironic because the two places I’ve lived all my life only have one season which is summer. Nevertheless, I love the idea of fall, pumpkin pie, sweatshirts, cooler weather, leaves changing colors and most of all the best movies are release during the fall.  The movies on this list are some of the year’s most anticipating movies, some you may not know -as yet- and others you can’t stop thinking about and is dying to see.

1. Gone Girl (October 3) With his wife disappearance on their fifth anniversary Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) becomes the focus of an intense media eye. As the police investigates further into his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike) disappearance, the media turns on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent. We all know the book written by Gillian Flynn by the same name and most of us read it and hate that we love it. Gillian Flynn screen-write the movie along with David Fincher whose directing. With an alternative ending book-readers and movie-goers are going to love this movie. I can definitely see this in the running for best picture and actor at 2015 Oscars.

2. Interstellar (November 5)         Interstellar is definitely the years most anticipated movie, it’s the first movie Matthew McConaughey stars in, coming off his big Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club earlier this year. Along with McConaughey, the movie stars a mass of other Oscar winners such as: Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastian, Michael Caine just to name a few. Interstellar is about a space travel story about a group of astronaut trying to find an inhabitable planet to replace Earth because Earth is on the brink of extinction. The movies written by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan and directed by Christopher Nolan who we all know from the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception. Nolan has yet to win a Oscar he’s been snob too many times and this might be his lucky year.

3. Exodus God & Kings (December 12)   Following the trend of religious movie comes Exodus which is the name of the second book in the bible and it gives an account of Moses leading the Israelite slaves to freedom from Egypt. Christian Bale plays Moses, a role that is a long way from the Dark Knight, Joel Edgeton plays the pharaoh Rhamses, Aaron Paul as Joshua and Sigourney Weaver as Tyua. Director and Co-Writer Ridley Scott who is well know for movies like Prometheus and Gladiator, uses a state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion to bring this story to life.

4. Fury (October 17)

Fury follows a five men American tank crew in Europe on the final days of World War 2. Fury stars a mass of hunks such as, Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena just to name a few. It was written and directed by David Ayer who is know for Sabotage and End of Watch. The release was initially set for November 14 but was moved up to October 17. By the trailer Fury looks like the Saving Private Ryan of the 21st century which are pretty big shoes to fill but that’s how promising it seems for now.

5. FoxCathcher (November 14)

FoxCatcher is based on the true story of Mark Schultz, an Olympic wrestler whose relationship with sponsor John du Pont and brother Dave Schultz would lead to unlikely circumstances. It stars Channing Tatum as Mark Schultz, Mark Ruffalo as Dave Schultz and Steve Carell as John du Pont.  This movie isn’t a blockbuster and it probably wont make a big profit but it’s going one of the years most critically acclaimed movie. Steve Carell is one of Hollywood’s most diverse and underestimate actor.  Do I hear Oscar bells for Best and Supporting actor, too early to tell.

Noticeable Mentions

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

2. Dumb & Dumber To

3. Inherent Vice

4. The Hobbit

These movies will definitely  make fall 100% better.  Which movie are you looking for too this fall?

2014 Summer Blockbusters: Maleficent

wpid-maleficent-poster-1.jpg.jpeg

Over the past couple years we’ve been getting quite a number of live-action fairy tales movies such as Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood), Jack the Giant Slayer (Jack and the Beanstalk), Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (Hansel and Gretel) and Alice in Wonderland(Alice Adventures in Wonderland). Not all were hits but they definitely started a trend and continuing that trend is no other than Disney’s upcoming re-tell on Sleeping Beauty, re-told from the point of view of Maleficent. Known as Mistress of all Evil, Maleficent is Disney’s most iconic villain and in the upcoming movie we finally find out what led her to curse Princess Aurora.

As beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in peaceful forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and as a result places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and perhaps to Maleficent true happiness as well.

The movie stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent,  Elle Fanning playing Princess Aurora, along with Juno Temple, Brenton Thwaites and Shartlo Copley. Toddler Princess Aurora is played by Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. All actor in Maleficent where chosen because of their uncanny resemblance to their respectful characters

Tim Burton, David Yates and David O. Russell where all rumored to be directing but the job went to Oscar winner Robert Stromberg. This is Stomberg directorial debut, he’s known for his visual effects and production design on movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End(2007), The Hunger Games(2012) and Pan’s Labyrinth(2006).  Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay, she’s also the screenwriter of Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. With a budget around $160 million and big names on screen and behind the camera Maleficent is not a movie to be missed this summer.

Grab a friend and mark the date for May 30th, but before, check out the trailer and comment what you think off it.

-Have a good one.

A penny for my thought (The Maze Runner)

image

I recently read this book, it took me nearly a month to do so -not that it wasn’t an interesting book- I really liked it.

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers all boys whose memories are also gone.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out-and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

The book is written in third person narrative (or second I don’t know) which I love because unlike first person narrative you get every detail of the story. Seeing that the narrator only follows Thomas, we didn’t get the whole story, which is cool -can’t give everything away- but I would have love to know what someone else going through like the girl. I think it would have been a way better (and emotional) book if it was written in first person narrative.

In the beginning it was kind of hard keeping up with all the characters being introduce. I think that’s just me but as I read further I got a feel of the main characters and the roleo they played.
At first Thomas was confuse, he didn’t know where he was and why he was there, he had no memory other than his name and I felt that confusion while reading. (Still would preferred the first person narrative).

This books is packed with suspense, action from the beginning to the end, there weren’t that many dull moments. Its on the dark side with Gievers, which scare the klunk out of me. Oh, the book is full of really cool termologies “Gladers slang.” Klunk, greenie, shank, I don’t want to give too much away.

By now you know that its been adapted into a movie. The Maze Runner works because of it’s plot, its original. Yes it is a YA dystopia novel like the Hunger Games and Divergent etc with a “government” trying to control it’s youth. I like that this have a male protagonist (not that I’m against female leads). Dylan O’Brien is cast as Thomas, you may know him as Stiles from Teen Wolf and movies like The First Time and The Internship.

You should definitely read the book, not because its turned into a movie, its a good read especially if your into YA novels.

Check out the trailer which is out and let me know you what your thoughts are, if you read the book or not.
Are you excited to see the movie??

Battle for the Box Office (April 18)

Happy Good Friday, Hope everyone have a good Easter Break. These are the movies opening this Holy weekend.

1. Heaven is for real (April 16)

image

During emergency surgery, a young boy (Colton) slips from consciousness and almost dies. Afterwards he claims that he visited heaven. His family and the members of his small town do not believe him until his stories identify people who have passed away.  This is the perfect movie to see this weekend it opened on Wednesday and made over $3 million. It’s inspiring and uplifting, its based on a book inspired by true events. The trailer looks good and if I’m going to see a movies this weekend, I would definitely see this one.

2. Transcendence (April 18)

image

A science fiction thriller film about a computer scientist, Evelyn Caster, who uploads her husband Will’s brain into a computer after he has been assassinated by terrorists. Both Evelyn and Will work together to create a technological singularity for creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. I watched all trailer but I’m torn with this movie, I don’t know if I like it or not. Its sound cool but it doesn’t feel original, it centers on computers rebelling on humanity and its been done before. It probably ends with the unplugging Will just joking. It stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman. This movie can go either way but I don’t think it can take the number one spot away from Captain American.

3. A Haunted House 2 (April 18)

image

Marlon Wayans stars as a man plagued by paranormal events in the sequel spoof. This movie was suppose to be release earlier this year but they moved the date. The date should have moved to never. I just don’t get it, its the same plot with a bigger budget and hopefully better jokes. Mainly its just wrong timing for this movie. But we’ll see how well it does.

Sorry this post is so late.

Last week I was correct with Captain American holding on to the number one spot Transcendence seems like the movie to take that spot but I’m not sure, its going to.

Which movies are you planning to see this weekend? What do you think of Transcendence?

Disappointment!!!

The MTV Movies Award just aired and I know by tomorrow everyone is going to be saying how awesome it was but was it really??
First Conan O’Brian monologue wasn’t funny I’m not a big O’Brian fan but come on, and after his monologue he basically disappear until the show was almost over.
Secondly, the winner were predictable. After years of watching the MTV Movie Award and many other award shows I found out you can predict who’s going to win by who’s in the audience. Tonight was no exception.
Lastly, WHERE THE HELL IS THE MOCKINGJAY TRAILER? By my all caps you can tell that I’m very, very, very, upset is the least to say. The only reason I watched the awards is to finally get a peck of mockingjay but no says Lionsgate you have to wait. The MTV Movie Awards was the best demographic for them to air the trailer with millions of teen watching. As I guessed first, they are probably going to release it at ComicCon which is in June hopefully they do it before then.

On to the positives. Tons of other trailers air during the show which kind of makes up for Mockingjay…well it doesn’t, I’m still disappointed.
First, The Fault in Our Stars exclusive Its a metaphor clip which air during the pre-show. It almost made me cry. What I loved the most about that clip, it showed how truthful the movie is going to remain to the book. It’s doesn’t seems like there are any big changes and with a story like that it needs no changes.

image

Second, The Amazing Spider 2 exclusive. OK I said it before I’m not a big marvels but the clip alone makes me want to watch the movie. I watched all the trailer but it never really drew me in until now, after you watch it you’ll see what I mean.
Thirdly, to all the TMNT fan out there you finally get a look at Splinter
will not a look more like a glimpse. Looks pretty cool don’t it.

Other trailers like Transcendence, Neighbors, 22 Jump Street aired.

And don’t forget about the performances from Rihanna, Eminem, Zedd, 21 Pilots, Elle Goudling.

Maybe I would have enjoyed the show more if I wasn’t so hang up on the Mockingjay trailer.

What did you liked most about the show? Where expecting the Mockingjay trailer like I was?

Trailer Frenzy

In the last couple week some trailers have been release and every putting in their ¢2 in and its my turn. But before… the new Captain America movie came out this week and I’m not a big marvels fan (never seen Avengers) but I want to watch it so bad. I’m going to watch the first Captain America and then go see the new one next weekend. I’m not going to do a review because I think there’s enough on the interwebs. OK I’m rambling now here are 5 trailers I’ve been dying to talk about.

1. Lucy (August 8)

You may or may not heard of this movie, this trailer was release April 4, that was 4 days ago and it has almost 8 million hits YouTube which is pretty cool. The movie centers on a woman forced to become a drug mule. But the drug instead goes into her system, transforming her into an ass-kicking machine. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts. It stars Scarlet Johansson as Lucy and Morgan Freeman this movie looks like its going to be badass. Its being compared to Limitless but apart from the “you use 10% of your brain premise” it stands on its own. You have to watch the trailer to see what I mean. This movie isn’t getting a lot of advertisements and its being release the same day as TMNT which is not good.

2. TMNT (August 8)

First of all, I love Michael Bay I don’t know why everyone keeps bashing him and his movies still makes millions and I know TMNT will be no exception. The trailer has been out for a week and most of what I’ve read have been negative. Why Meghan Fox is April? Why the turtles look like crap? Michael Bay (who just produced the movie) ruined my childhood once again. The turtles weren’t created. Where’s Splinter?
I get it Meghan Fox isn’t the best actress but give it a rest. The turtles, to me looks cool and realistic for CGI but they don’t look like teenagers. And the how they were not created BS I get I don’t why they changed something so big but we all have to wait until the movie to see how it plays out. The trailer is only 1 minute and 30 seconds there is only so much they can show without ruining  the movie.

3. Hercules (July 25)

Following The Legend of Hercules staring Kellan Lutz train wreck which came out earlier this year there is no way this film can disappoint with the expectations so low and by the looks of the trailer its not going to. I’m not the biggest fan of The Rock especially when I heard when he’s going to be Hercules but so far I like what I’m getting from the trailer. Most people don’t agree with The Rock ethnicity but I think that’s just pathetic.

4. Interstellar (November 7)

Although the teaser trailer have been out for 3 months and I’ve watched it a lot I still kind of don’t know what’s it about and I want to. From what I’ve read its about a group of astronaut/explorers that discover how to suppress the limitations on human space travel. Everyone is saying it going to the “Gravity” of 2014, its too early to say that but with Christopher Nolan directing and  Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain  staring its definitely won’t disappoint.

5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

OK the trailer for Mockingjay isn’t out as yet. WHY!?!? I’m dying just to see a glimpse of the trailer. It probably premiere at ComiCon which is in June so we have to wait until then hopefully the teaser will be out before then.

OK there are many more trailers has been released which ones are you most excited for and the ones your dying to see??
